“Conducting Elif” – a play based on Dennett’s Consciousness Explained
(2002, 55 min.)

Conducting Elif explores topics in functionalism and the problems of doing phenomenology.  This musical and comic work has elements of metatheatricality; pokes fun of the consequences of the idea of the Self as Central Witness; follows the Futurist poet F.T. Marinetti in parodying artistic endeavors which are “Solemn, Sacred and Serious”; and is constructed to illustrate Dennett’s Multiple Drafts and Cerebral Celebrity models of consciousness.

The work requires twelve actors and has eight scenes.
